European Nationalisms and Norwegian Music since 1905
SAVE THE DATE – The joint conference by the
Grieg Research Centre and the
University of Münster explores new perspectives on the Nordic.
How did European ideas affect the Nordic? This issue will be reassessed by an examination of Norwegian music within changing political contexts during the 20th century. Thereby, ideological aspects of the Nordic in present musical sub-cultures (e.g. Black Metal or neo-folk) will be elaborated – including interdisciplinary perspectives from musicology, history, literature, and theatre studies.
The conference is organized by Arnulf Mattes, leader of
Grieg Research Centre (UiB), and Michael Custodis, leader of the project “
Nordic Music and Politics” (
WWU Münster) and supported by
Goethe Institut Norwegen and
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG).
