Studienbrücke partner universities

Since 2007, the Ruhr-Universität Bochum, TU Dortmund University and the University of Duisburg-Essen have been working in close strategic cooperation in the University Alliance Ruhr (UA Ruhr). Together, the partner universities initiate numerous cooperative ventures and offer their 100,000 or so students a particularly wide range of courses. At the same time, the individual UA Ruhr universities are developing complementary research focal areas so as to enhance their profiles and make them even more productive and attractive. By following this strategy of cooperation and competition, the University Alliance serves as a role model for the Ruhr, a former coal- and steel-producing region that is growing together and becoming one of the most interesting places for science and culture in Germany.


 

RWTH Aachen University is a place where the future of our industrialized world is explored. The university is proving to be an internationally recognized hotspot where innovative responses to global challenges are developed. With its 260 institutes in nine faculties, it is one of Europe’s leading scientific centres. During the 2017/18 winter semester, 45,377 students were enrolled in 157 courses of study, including 9,651 foreign students from 131 countries. As well as offering an outstanding basic education, the university’s programmes involve researching and developing new and innovative application possibilities in international teams. Thinking about the future is something that students learn at RWTH Aachen University right from their very first semester.

With around 19,400 students and 2,200 employees, the University of Siegen is a medium-sized, interdisciplinary research university located centrally in the area bordering the three German federal states of North Rhine-Westphalia, Hesse and Rhineland-Palatinate. The university is firmly rooted in the South Westphalian region and has a wide national and international network, for example through more than 170 worldwide partnerships. More than 2,400 students from over 100 countries are currently studying at the University of Siegen.

The University of Bonn has seven faculties offering a full range of subjects: Catholic and Protestant Theology, Law and Economics, Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Philosophy, Medicine and Agriculture. 

Currently, more than 38,000 students – 5,000 of them being international students from 143 countries – are enrolled in one of our 200 courses of study. 

Excellent research has been established at the university thanks to the strategic recruitment of outstanding scientists and academics. As such, the University of Bonn is one of Germany’s leading universities.

With roughly 6,600 students, the European University Viadrina is a fairly small yet highly international university situated on the German-Polish border only around an hour from Berlin. Its international orientation is reflected not only in the courses of study themselves, but also in the considerable proportion (25%) of international students from over 100 countries. With its three faculties – business administration and economics, social and cultural sciences, and law – Viadrina is excellently positioned in research and teaching. National rankings put Viadrina among the top universities in economics, among other areas. The high level of student satisfaction is partly a result of the outstanding support structure provided at Viadrina.

At the Bauhaus-University Weimar, the future is being shaped across the boundaries of individual disciplines. The term “Bauhaus” stands for an eagerness to experiment, openness and innovation. This self-image is evident in research, art and teaching as well as a strong international network. The State Bauhaus, the most influential design school of the 20th century, was founded in the current main building of the university in 1919. Since 1996, the Bauhaus-University Weimar has added its name to this history. It is an international university, at home in the cultural city of Weimar. Inspired by its history, around 4,000 students seek and find answers to current questions in science and technology as well as art and culture in 40 courses.
