Narratives of dwelling and becoming in the urban

After several weeks of exploring the City, on foot and otherwise, with a camera always at the ready, Marvin Systermans has an extensive databank of photos. Simultaneously, Raisa Galofre was creating sculptural installations with all manner of found objects that she discovered in Bangalore. The artists, current bangaloREsidents@IIHS, invite you to share their experience of our City.

Concrete Discontinuities, which opens December 6, 2019 at 6.30 p.m., is on display at the Indian Institute for Human Settlements.

Between the tensions and intensities within multi-layered spaces, overwhelming traffic, an endless vocabulary of forms and shapes and constant work in progress, the urban finds its form and yet always changes. Concrete Discontinuities gives a first glance at the non-linear visual narration that unfolds from our photographic dialogue and continuous exploration of the different cityscapes we encounter in Bangalore. The focus is drawn to the spaces between the public and the privatised, between the so-called traditional and modern and the state of endless becoming. Approaching the multitudes of surfaces, constructions, artifacts and materials we encounter with both a documentary and a fictional visual language, this exhibition offers different narratives and interpretations of the urban.

On view till December 11, 2019 from 10.00 a.m. to 7.00 p.m.
