What is Vernetzte Welten?

‘Vernetzte Welten - Food hacking’ [Connected Worlds - Food hacking] is a student exchange program by the Goethe-Institut and Jugend hackt. It brings together young people from India, Sri Lanka and Germany. Together they develop ideas and prototypes around the topic the future of food. ‘Vernetzte Welten’ is in itself an innovative exchange program, based on the workshop format of a youth-hackathon.

The format has been developed and tested by the German program Jugend hackt. ‘Vernetzte Welten’ started its first pilot project in 2016 with 10 German and 10 Korean students in Seoul, who worked on the topic of the student exchange of the future.

When and Where?

The event will be conducted in three cities i.e. Colombo, Delhi and Kolkata respectively and will be a two and a half days event format for each city. There will be group of 5 participants, wherein there will be 20 Indian/Sri Lankan students with 5 German youngsters respectively.

Aim | To code a better world

The goal of this workshop is to develop ideas and prototypes for dealing with the topic food and nutrition together with students from Asia and Germany.
  • A greater focus is placed on cultural and social exchange. The goal is to connect young people beyond the event and to develop an understanding of each other's culture.
  • Another focus is on the use of language. The goal is to break down language barriers and stimulate exchange through the action-oriented, joint analysis of technology and programming.
  • The long-term goal of Networked Worlds is a digital platform that bundles young people's ideas and projects.
  • The focus of the program in India / Sri Lanka is the topic "Food Revolution", which is based on the Science Film Festival theme 2018.The Food Revolution will be the overarching theme of the Youth Hackathon. On the one hand, this topic offers great potential for intercultural exchange, especially in the most diverse dimensions of economic, ecological and cultural perspectives and starting situations of the participating countries.
