The Big Pond #09: A Singer’s Life

Leigh Hamilton is a dramatic soprano who has been based in Germany for more than 17 years. This episode follows Leigh’s story, which takes her from small-town in Ohio to metropolitan Berlin where she now trains the next generation of singers for the rigors of the stage in her private voice studio.

Young singers from all over the globe come to Germany to seek their fortunes. Learning what it takes to be successful is vital, as the singer’s life is not an easy one. Voice teachers like Leigh Hamilton know what it takes because they’ve lived it. Hamilton is a dramatic soprano who has been based in Germany for more than 17 years. 

Her story takes her from a small town in Ohio to the Manhattan School of Music, from the famed opera houses of Europe to her private voice studio in Berlin where she now trains the next generation of singers for the rigors of the stage. As an American and a woman of color, she shares her experiences bridging cultures and creating connections through her art. She spoke with producer Jocelyn Robinson while on her most recent visit to her hometown of Yellow Springs, Ohio.
