Advice and information

EnrolLment

Due to the current situation, we are currently only accepting exam candidates who can demonstrate a need to prove their language proficiency, such as for immigration, naturalization, university, or employment, and who cannot wait until a later date.

Until we resume normal operations, exam booking directly over our website is disabled. Please write the Language Course Office at germancourses-newyork@goethe.de with a brief description of the reason you need to take the exam, the deadline by which you need the results, and the level of an exam and we will be happy to assist you further.

If you think that you meet the language requirements, then you can enroll for an exam. There are no prerequisites - you do not have to have taken a course with the Goethe-Institut in order to enroll! We recommend that you participate in one of our courses, however. During these courses, you will be taught language and examination-specific skills that will make it as easy as possible for you to pass the exam.

Our Examinations

Do you need certification or a diploma for work, study or a visa? Would you like to know the level of your knowledge of German? There are numerous internationally recognised proficiency exams available through our institute.

The overview of Goethe-Institut examination and course levels can tell you which exam is designed for which level. Young Learners exams (A1-B2) take place on regular exam dates. Please contact the Language Office directly to register minors.

If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to contact the Language Office. germancourses-newyork@goethe.de

Most exams will begin around 10:00-11:30 AM. However, please make yourself available for the entire day of your exam, as this is subject to change on short notice due to the current situation.
