To mark the opening of our new space at 30 Irving Place, the Berlin-based performance artist
Wanda Golonka will transform our street-level space and library into a space for wasting time with her work
EXIT: Leave behind the rhythm of functioning, optimizing, and accumulating. Visitors are invited to step out of time and to engage in idle pursuits. The results of this collectively wasted time will slowly fill the room and will be arranged by stage designer/artist Colin Walker.
About Wanda Golonka:
Crossing the borders of dance, performance, music and words, Wanda Golonka’s work deals with the theater as a physical experience. The central element of this is the sensory and aesthetic discovery of space. After training in classical ballet and modern dance, Golonka, born in Lyon in 1958, worked with Pina Bausch in Wuppertal from 1987 to 1991 and in 1985 founded the company NEUER TANZ, which she directed until 1995. She has worked as a freelance choreographer since 1996 and was the in-house director of the Schauspielfrankfurt from 2001 until 2009. Golonka is currently head of the Master of Arts course in Choreography at the Inter-University Center for Dance and the Dance Department of the Ernst Busch Academy of Dramatic Art, both in Berlin, where she lives and works.
