As part of the Year of German-American Friendship we invite everyone to our
Pop Up Film Haus to discover German cinema through a curated selection of films. Each film will be shown in German with English subtitles and there will be an opportunity for discussion following each screening.

The Blue Angel, 1930
Director: Joseph von Sternberg
Cast: Marlene Dietrich, Emil Jannings, Hans Albers
The movie is based on Heinrich Mann’s novel Professor Unrat (or:
Small Town Tyrant) and was the breakthrough for Marlene Dietrich.
The Blue Angel presents the tragic transformation and moral decline of a respectable professor (played by Emil Jannings) who ends up performing as a cabaret clown after falling in love with Lola, a variety singer (played by Dietrich).
