FRIDAY FILMS @GOETHE

Are you interested in Germany and German culture? Are you looking for an opportunity to improve your German language skills? Do you enjoy German films? Then this is your event!

Every third Friday of the month, the Goethe-Institut San Francisco will present recent German films ranging from small, independent productions to box office hits. We will start into the summer with Andreas Dresen's tragicomedy "Whisky with Vodka". All screenings are in German with English subtitles. Admission is free!

PLOT:
When ageing actor Otto Killberg has a few too many and misses a day of shooting, his producer double-casts his role. The rivalry between Otto and his replacement Arno Runge results in a web of intrigue on set, entangling more than just the two actors.
(104 min., 2008)

REVIEWS:
Booze in the thermos flask, Tango lacking the footwork: Andreas Dresen's "Whisky with Vodka" is a star-studded tribute to filmmaking. What initially seems like a cabaret about an aging movie star, turns out to be a universal reflection on the art of illusionism.

Whisky with Vodka is full of narrative energy. In this film everything seams to fall into place easily, sadness as well as jokes, prancing as well as lurching, the declaration of love to his profession, but also the drama of a lonely actor's life.
