Join France and Germany for a celebration of European-American friendship!
On the special yearlong occasion of the Year of German-American Friendship (Deutschlandjahr, embodied by the motto #WunderbarTogether), the Goethe-Institut Washington, the Deutschlandjahr Team, the Embassy of Germany, and La Maison Française (Embassy of France) invite you to experience a special showcase of transatlantic friendship and European friendship alike. Visitors will have the opportunity to discover the food, culture, language, and diplomatic lives of two major European nations – and the special relationships fostered between these nations and the United States. Explore and sample the culinary specialties and signature beverages of France and Germany. Test your language skills, play games, and more as you learn about the life and culture of both countries alike in a single stop.
We are currently at our halfway point for the Deutschlandjahr; check out what we’ve been up to since October 2018 and find out what’s still to come! Learn about our cross-country WanderbUS tour, enjoy authentic Hofbräu beer and tasty pretzels at our Wiesn in a Box trailer, and mug for the camera at the Deutschlandjahr photobooth. The Deutschlandjahr stand will be outdoors, by the gates to the Embassy.
The Goethe-Institut stand will be in the Embassy auditorium. Get a sneak peek at what we have in store for our summer and fall programming. Take your smartphone or camera along on a unique exploration around the Embassy grounds, capturing traces of Bauhaus philosophy and design within and without the building. Kid-friendly activities include a hands-on learning Braille craft and video for beginners, temporary tattoos, German-language beatboxing with Baltimore-based artist Shodekeh, and much more!
Shodekeh will perform on the auditorium stage at 12:00, 1:30, and 3:00. Stop in for a beatboxing workshop and learn how you can become a beatbox pro! At 12:00, we will begin running workshops for crafting tiny furniture in the Bauhaus aesthetic. Throughout the day,
Kinderuni videos on Beatboxing and Braille crafting will be available, as will our Bauhaus scavenger hunt.
