Short plays originally commissioned as part of the Plurality of Privacy Project in Five-Minute Plays (P3M5) will be shared as part of the People’s Light summer program Community Matters. The work of playwrights from the UK, Belgium, Slovenia, San Francisco, Chicago, and elsewhere will be presented.

Community Matters is a series of free events at People’s Light intended to spark dialogue about vital issues in the community. Performed readings of new plays are the centerpiece of each evening, followed by a vibrant discussion with key community partners, artists, and special guests.

The discussion will be facilitated by People’s Light company member David Bradley, and will feature guest respondents from the community including:
  • Kate Boyle, Director of Reference and Technology at Tredyffrin Public Library
  • Marc Dubach, Information Security at SEI
  • Peter Goldberger, Private Attorney and Vice President of the American Civil Liberties Union of Pennsylvania
Now in its 42nd season, People’s Light is one of Pennsylvania’s largest professional non-profit theatres and is known for its resident company of artists, eclectic mix of productions, and for innovative work with young people. The organization produces 7 – 9 plays per season, mixing world premieres, contemporary plays, and fresh approaches to classic texts. The theatre commissions and produces new work: of its 384 productions, over a third have been world or regional premieres.

P3M5 is a groundbreaking transatlantic theater project focused on the value of privacy. In cooperation with the Goethe-Institut Washington, theaters across the US and Europe have commissioned playwrights to write five-minute plays exploring the central question, “What does privacy mean to you in the digital age?” The resulting plays, and subsequent short films adapted from them, are being presented in different formats by a network of theaters, festivals, and other organizations between January 2017 and June 2018.

No charge. Please reserve tickets in advance (see link at right).
