Nanjing: Cultures in Contact

Who: Writers from Nanjing and Germany

Section: Literature

Duration: 4 weeks

“Cultures in Contact – Artist-in-Residence” is an exchange programme for German and Chinese writers, which was launched in 2007 by the Goethe-Institut China in cooperation with the Department for Inter-Cultural German Studies at the University of Göttingen and the German Department of the Nanjing University. It sponsors an annual fellowship that gives a writer from Nanjing and one from Germany the opportunity to immerse him or herself for one month in the culture of the other country.

The one-month stay aims at providing the fellow with the opportunity of becoming acquainted with the literary scene, expressive forms and way of life of the host country. The foreign surroundings can thus offer the fellows inspiration for their own literary work. Together with local writers and students, they can discuss perspectives of the German-Chinese cultural exchange. In addition, fellows will report on their stay on the website of the Goethe-Institut China.
