Same Problem, Same Solution? Disinformation & Countermeasures Across Borders

Location: Goethe-Institut / Max Mueller Bhavan Kolkata
Dates: November 16-17, 2024

A 2-day lab bringing together civil society organisations, journalists, students, activists, educators, researchers and litigators to exchange concepts and strategies.

Hosted by Correctiv, Frag Den Staat and Design Beku in partnership with Goethe-Institut / Max Mueller Bhavan and Quicksand Design Studio.

What to expect:

Disinformation undermines democracies worldwide, fueling division and polarisation in our societies. Addressing this challenge effectively requires a collective, networked response. To create meaningful and sustainable solutions, regulators, policymakers, civil society, educational institutions, civic tech innovators, educators, and media representatives must come together and collaborate. In this two-day workshop, we aim to do just that.

Supported by the Goethe-Institut and guided by renowned German as well as Indian experts from the field, we will first take a cross-border look at the issue of disinformation and explore proven countermeasures. Through shared insights and lessons from various perspectives, participants will gain a clearer understanding of what strategies are working in different contexts and how they can be adapted to fit new environments.

Building on this foundation, we will shift our focus to the future and to the local regional Bengali context. How can we tailor these approaches to local needs? Which key players and resources are essential to making these strategies effective? How can we leverage the power of AI technologies to serve our mission? On the second day, we will work collaboratively to answer these questions, fostering a space for participants from different sectors to connect, exchange ideas, and initiate future partnerships.

By the end of this workshop, participants will leave not only with actionable insights but also with a stronger network of like-minded professionals ready to tackle disinformation together. Join us in this opportunity to shape the fight against disinformation—one that is rooted in cooperation, innovation, and shared responsibility.
