Man-Eater

About the work

An audio piece that showcases the fascinating journey of a young woman through a sexual encounter with her first partner, originally developed as a trans-media show by movement artist and filmmaker Gia Dhadak, and music producer Radhapriya Gupta, Man-Eater is a presentation that is a blend of translated olden, long-forgotten classical poetry and eclectic music, inspired by contemplative body movements, and a coming-of-age story. The piece exhibits a unique narrative of female desire and the act of sex, fused with a contemporary perspective, which constantly shifts form based on the medium in which it is presented.

Crafted using tech, electronica elements mixed with Hindustani classical melodies, this audio presentation of Man-Eater blends the olden sensibilities of folk-lore music with modern day songwriting. The music includes a wide variety of instrumentation, spoken text and sound design, woven in with melodies that feel reminiscent of poetry, shayari, and romance.
