bangaloREsident@Maraa, Chelsea Leventhal presents
The hands, amplified
The voices, responding
featuring Big Bang.
This multi-channel sound installation explores the sounds and rhythms of physical labour carried out in the Koramangala Slum Cluster through inter-generational conversations with young artists from the area, who voice their everyday life experiences and memories in poetic responses. The installation brings attention to the everyday work and life of labourers in Bangalore, a facet of society often rendered invisible.
Founded in 2019, Big Bang is a transformative music band that aims to empower the youth living in slums, recognising their enormous potential, energy, and enthusiasm for learning and self-expression. These youth, shaped by their experiences of caste, class, and patriarchy, possess a critical vision of collective struggles and bring unique perspectives to the performing arts. Their stories of agony, resilience, and hope are powerfully conveyed through their artistic expressions, offering new ways of articulating their lived realities.
Produced by Maraa, a media and arts collective as part of Sounds of Labour, a project tracing labour practices in Bangalore that are systematically made invisible.
Venue collaboration: BMRCL + Art in Transit
Free entry! All are welcome.
