Fassbinder film screening ©Kinowelt GmbH

Director: Rainer Werner Fassbinder
1974, Eastmancolor, 93 minutes

Emmi, a 60-year-old cleaning woman, falls in love with, and marries Ali, a much younger Moroccan guest worker. Emmi’s family and neighbours disapprove of their relationship until they realize they can profit from it. But the pressure is too much for both of them. A “film about an impossible love which is nonetheless possible”. (Rainer Werner Fassbinder)

Fassbinder © STUDIOCANAL Rainer Werner Fassbinder - Even during his lifetime, his work was controversial, and the director Rainer Werner Fassbinder also caused a stir in Germany with his lifestyle. In a radical and groundbreaking way, he ventured into topics such as anti-Semitism, migration, and role clichés, and from 1969 until his death in 1982, he made more than 40 feature-length films with an almost unimaginable productivity. Fassbinder wrested this work mania from himself with a lot of drugs. This had its price. He died at the age of only 37 - and left behind an artistic legacy that stands for the "New German Cinema" like no other and still resonates today.

This screening is to commemorate Rainer Werner Fassbinder on his birth anniversary.

For age group 18 years and above. Limited seating. Please register here.
