[Hyper]-Toxicity: Cultural Hegemony & Industrial Encounters (2024)
Installation|By Amarjeet Singh
-
Goethe-Institut / Max Mueller Bhavan New Delhi, New Delhi
Part of the exhibition Critical Zones. In Search of a Common Ground.
Toxicity that emerge from Industrial landscapes surrounds all systems, living and non-living, on earth. This work presents toxicity (adj.) as a Hyperobject having an agency of its own. A hyperobject is a concept introduced by philosopher Timothy Morton to describe phenomena that are massive in scale and distributed in time and space, making them difficult to comprehend and experience directly. The work unfolds the relationships of toxicity and industrial infrastructures, while thinking across different scales and perspectives that form the idea of a hyperobject.
Amarjeet Singh is an architect and researcher. He studied Design Research at the Bauhaus Dessau Foundation and since has been engaged in an independent research practice. His focus lies at the intersection of art, science, design, and technology which entails new collaborative ways of knowledge production around subjects of ecology. As a visual artist, his interest lies in thinking of responding to
the various challenges of the present and futures, experimenting through multi-media forms, installations or spatial experiences.
