From Mira Bai and Lalla to Iqbal Bano and Mahadevi Verma, human voices, and their stories and struggles have continued to inspire us.  Throughout our history, countless women and gender non-conforming philosophers, saints and poets have spoken of life and love while constantly being challenged by societal norms, and having to break barriers. Many of these stories and voices have gone unheard, overshadowed by their male counterparts.

Today, in 2025, we stand at a critical junction. Standing on the shoulders of these giants we see the long journey ahead of us.

Awazein aims to portray the confidence, strength and resilience of these voices. Voices of revolt and love, voices that surrender to our journeys. Journeys from the past, present and future.

This work, dedicated to all of us, is an ode to those that have carried the torch thus far, and for those that will continue to carry it forward.

Vedi Sinha is the founder of The Aahvaan Project that creates inclusive spaces through music performances and storytelling.
