Biography

Beate Völcker studied American Studies, Linguistics, and Political Science, and has been responsible for the area of Film Education and Film Mediation at the current State Institute for School and Media Berlin-Brandenburg since 1992. In 1999, she received extra-occupational training as a dramaturge. Since then, she has also worked as a freelance dramaturg, editor, and author.

From 2008 - 2012, Völcker was a dramaturgical project supervisor for children's film at the Kuratorium junger deutscher Film, from 2010-2019 she was project supervisor of children's film for the BKM. From 2003-2009, she was on the selection committee for the Generation Kplus/14plus section of the Berlinale. With "Kinderfilm. Stoff- und Projektentwicklung" (UVK, 2005) she has written a standard work on children's film. For her first screenplay as an author, "Fritzi - eine Wendewundergeschichte," she was awarded the German Animation Screenplay Prize TRICKSTAR.
