The Lithium Revolution (Die Lithium Revolution)

Director: Andreas Pichler, Color, 52 minutes, Germany and Spain, 2012, English

In a time of global resource shortage and increasing energy prices, it is lithium that is on the way to becoming one of the most promising natural resources of the 21st century. Lithium is the basis for a new kind of battery technology and thus a prerequisite for the spreading of electronic mobility. Is lithium an answer to the imminent energy crisis and key to the future? A high-stakes power play with global repercussions is underway.

Special thanks go to Andreas Klempin, Goethe-Institut Bangkok and Klara Räthel, without whose work this series would not have been possible.

The film is part of our series TAKE THE GREEN LINE, inspired by solarise: a sea of all colors is Luftwerk’s site-specific response to the Garfield Park Conservatory’s historic structure and natural collection.

The film program is a cooperation with the Science Film Festival, an initiative by the Goethe-Institut in Southeast Asia, the Middle East and Africa that reaches over 750,000 visitors in 16 countries annually.
