Audio Installation

In commemoration of the 200th anniversary of Karl Marx's birthday, the Goethe-Institut Chicago offers an audio installation of a complete reading of the Manifesto of the Communist Party. The installation can be visited during office hours.

In 1847, the Association of Communists entrusted Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels with the drafting of a communist party program to describe the theoretical ideas and practical goals in detail. In February 1948, shortly before the February Revolution in France and the March Revolution in Germany, the Manifesto of the Communist Party of Marx and Engels is published in London. The manifesto encourages the liberation of the oppressed and exploited proletariat and describes the class struggle and international solidarity as the basis for overcoming capitalism. The Manifesto of the Communist Party was translated into over 100 languages and was included in the UNESCO Memory of the World in 2013.

Reading in German by Katharina Thalbach
