Along with musician Alexander Hacke, bassist for the band Einstürzenden Neubauten, Filmmaker Fatih  Akin embarks on a musical expedition through streets, clubs and backyards of Istanbul, in search of the sound of the city.

Beginning at the famous Boğaziçi Köprüsü bridge that spans the Bosphorus, Akin’s camera follows Hacke, who, with his mobile recording studio and “magic mic,” captures the city’s broad musical spectrum, ranging from modern electronic, rock and hip-hop to classical ‘Arabesque’.As Hacke wanders through this seductive world, he collects impressions and tracks by the musicians who comprise the vibrant musical scene, including rapper Ceza & Gang, Orhan Gencebay, Sezen Aksu, street musicians, the Kurdish singer Aynur, the ‘Elvis of Arabesque’ Orhan Gencebay, and legendary divas Müzeyyen Senar and Sezen Aksu.

Akin’s film offers a pulsing, exciting, and atmospheric portrait of the cultural and musical diversity of the city where Europe and Asia, and Occident and Orient merge.

Presented as part of a 7 film series HEAD ON: The Films of Fatih Akin.
