In collaboration with NYU's 80WSE Gallery and Berlin-based CHEAP kollectiv
The Magic Flute, Part One: An Opera in Six Steps
, which took place as a series of "open rehearsals" at 80WSE Gallery in December 2015, was shot continuously by Michel Auder and Michael Stickrod, and served as the source material for their film The Magic Flute, Part Two: A Film in Pieces
, on view at 80WSE Gallery from June 7 - August 12, 2016.
This evening event at the Goethe-Institut forms the third component part of this massive project, realized over the course of nearly two years. The Magic Flute, Part Three: Press Conference
brings together the project's core group of international artists: Michel Auder
, Jonathan Berger
, Vaginal Davis
, Susanne Sachsse
, Jamie Stewart
, and Michael Stickrod
. Moderated by Participant Inc. Gallery's Founding Director, Lia Gangitano
, these key figures will be on stage to confound, discuss and digress.
The event at the Goethe-Institut is directly followed by the opening of The Magic Flute, Part Two: A Film in Pieces
at 80WSE Gallery. The exhibition consists of 12 looping projections, installed in various configurations throughout the 3500 square foot gallery space, which together comprise the complete film.
