Rams (2018), 74 minutes, produced and directed by Gary Hustwit, original music by Brian Eno
On July 11, join us for a documentary portrait of Dieter Rams, one of the most influential designers alive, and a rumination on consumerism, sustainability, and the future of design.
Dieter Rams, a German industrial designer and retired academic who believed in the approach “Less, but better”, has influenced the world of design on a substantial level internationally. For over fifty years he left an indelible mark on the field of product design with his work at the consumer products company Braun, the furniture company Vitsoe, and the functionalistic school of design. His work has influenced the way most of today’s consumer products look and function.
This documentary gives an unprecedented insight into the designers’ life and work. Including in-depth conversations with Dieter Rams himself, deep dives into his philosophy, his process, his inspirations, and his view on sustainability and environmental consciousness.
This screening is presented as part of the
Dieter Rams: A Look Back and Ahead exhibit, on display at the Goethe-Institut Washington until July 14, 2022.
