This trial level assessment test is designed to roughly assess your German skills, whether you are experienced or just starting to learn the language.

For internationally recognised proof of German language proficiency, we recommend taking our official Goethe-Zertifikat exams.

Level Assessment Test

Anyone who wants to take a course above level A1 and has not taken a Goethe‑Institut exam in the past six months must complete a placement test. The test determines the current language level.

Minimum age for the test: 13 years

The placement test consists of two parts:
Reading and listening (approximately 30–60 minutes)
Writing (approximately 15 minutes)

If an additional oral assessment is required, a teacher will contact you by email.

You will receive the results by email within one week after completing the test.
