Turning Tactile is the second in a year-long series of events designed to reanimate the dormant vinyl record collection at Goethe-Institut / Max Mueller Bhavan Kolkata.

This workshop has two halves.

Vynil Record Basics

4.00 to 6.00 pm – Open only to beginners

The first is a comprehensive introduction to the vinyl ecosystem. From the careful handling invited by these delicate objects, to cleaning, playback, and storage, participants will be systematically initiated into the distraction-free realm of analogue music.

Disc-Jockeying

6:30 to 8.30 pm – Registration is open to all

The proper playback of a single record is the starting point for the second half. From here, the facilitators* will demonstrate the ways of listening which are at the heart of freeform disc-jockeying. Though typically associated with dance music, DJing offers a dreamlike path of sound exploration for any playful listener.

This session is conducted by Sammy Bhattacharya, Kahini Panjabi, and Jivraj Singh.
