The library is open to the public. Visitors can use books and media in the library free of charge.

Visit our library to experience Germany through our media collections and get acquainted with the latest works by German authors. Read a book or newspaper or watch the German TV channel Deutsche Welle and German films from the library collection in our TV lounge. Our library is a meeting places that enables a free and uncensored access to knowledge and information.

The focal points of our collection are 20th and 21st century German literature, art, culture, society and history. The book and magazine collections are complemented by audio books and the greatest choice of German feature and documentary films available in Mumbai. Since 2014 we've also been able to offer electronic media from our online eLibrary (see eLibrary service).

We place particular emphasis on 'Deutsch als Fremdsprache' (German as a foreign language). The library offers a wide range of language learning and teaching material.

The library is equipped with 5 computers that will help you to find information about Germany on the Internet and enable you to search databases. Library members can use this service free of cost.You also have a choice of 1 TV screen where you can watch film-DVDs or Deutsche Welle-TV.

A photocopier is available for photocopying.

You must be a member to be able to borrow books and other materials. 

Membership can be obtained by submitting the duly filled Registration form and upon presentation of valid proof of address (e.g. passport, driving license, voting card)

The Annual membership fee is INR 1200 (or INR 700 for six months).

Loan periods

Books, Magazines, Audio-CDs: 15 days
DVDs: 7 days


  • Books, magazines, Audio-CDs can be renewed twice, provided there is no prior reservation.
  • Language material, Media packets and DVD’s can be renewed only once, provided there is no prior reservation.
