This exhibition runs until September 16. The opening hours of the Goethe-Institut Washington can be found: here

There is a lot of downtime in the kitchen: waiting for meat to marinate, bread to rise, and vegetables to pickle. These five recipes require long wait times — and plenty of patience. After all, good things can’t be rushed. Each dish includes an introduction and recipe by German food blogger Britta Gädtke, accompanied by Washington, D.C. photographer Aphra Adkins’s creative food styling and photography.

Recipes and photography were created for the online publication STILLSTAND, an homage to standstills and their poetic beauty. Find out more at: www.goethe.de/standstill

About the Photographer

Apra Adkins © Aphra Adkins © Aphra Adkins Aphra Adkins is a food and product photographer based in Takoma Park, Maryland. For this project, Aphra created a retro kitchen setting, complete with vintage props she found online. In the exhibit, you can access each of the recipes in German and English via the QR code attached to the canning jars on the kitchen counter.
