WERK STATT

WERK STATT is a collaborative project of La Paz based composers collective Casataller and Cologne based ensemble for contemporary music hand werk. In the course of this project, five new pieces by Bolivian composers will be developed in close collaboration and performed in Bolivia and Germany. Furthermore both hand werk and Casataller will hold seminars in La Paz, Cologne and Freiburg respectively. 
Make-shift instruments and electronics, largely used – for very different reasons – in both German and Bolivian contemporary music scenes, will be the cornerstone of this project. The new pieces to be developed will critically reflect this phenomenon.
The conception of the instruments to be used as well as basic musical material will be created and discussed through online work. The composers will then use the generated material and ideas to create first drafts of pieces that will unfold its final form during joint work in Bolivia and Germany.
