The Goethe-Institut / Max Mueller Bhavan will bear economy return airfare from Germany to Bangalore and cover the insurance. In addition, the Goethe-Institut / Max Mueller Bhavan offers 250 € per week to cover daily expenses for the duration of the residency, which will be transferred to the host organisation, who will then pay it out to you in cash. This stipend adequately covers daily board and routine expenses. The resident is also offered a production budget of upto 1500 €.
While cash is generally preferred in Germany, it is also possible to pay by credit card and visa cards. Travellers’ cheques/foreign currency can be encashed at designated locations. Make sure your bank is informed about your travel plans, so all services can be activated for access abroad.
No, but your host can help you purchase a local SIM card. E-SIM cards are also available for Germany.
The other option is to activate international roaming on your Indian number.
We require that all applicants speak fluent English to overcome any potential language barriers while in Germany. We also offer selected residents the opportunity to take a German language course free of cost, if there is sufficient time before the residency.
Your host will advise you on the best option (usually a monthly pass) for the local transport network in the city you are going to. The German train and bus network cover the entire country so moving between cities is not difficult. Be sure to look out for saver options and discounts.
