“Abitare” è un termine oggi che caratterizza la nostra situazione esistenziale contemporanea. Una condizione che coglie da una parte una riflessione filosofica generale sull’ontologia dell’essere e dall’altra può essere una chiave interpretativa della nostra situazione storico-sociale.
Abitare è qui inteso non – o non solo – nella sua accezione di significato linguistico: il “vivere in un luogo fisico”. Ma piuttosto nella sua accezione filosofica: quella che il filosofo tedesco Martin Heidegger sintetizzava con la frase: “L’abitare è il modo in cui i mortali vivono sulla terra”. Un modo caratterizzato come spazio di frontiera, un frammento di congiunzione fra due o più mondi dove la fisicità del luogo vive in un tempo quasi sospeso, come tensione di possibilità del nostro incerto abitare (la casa, la terra, il mondo…).
È ciò che troviamo in
Habitat con varchi in una regione piovosa, l’opera di
Vittorio Messina qui esposta, un nuovo approdo del percorso delle “celle” che l’artista porta avanti ormai da più di trent’anni. La cella è per Messina un concetto rappresentativo della condizione esistenziale del nostro abitare, un luogo simbolico che di volta in volta prende forma diversamente in base allo spazio in cui è posta, attraverso dei moduli sempre rimodulabili. La cella accoglie ogni volta elementi diversi del nostro vivere quotidiano intrecciati a elementi della fredda architettura industriale, elementi che vengono posti insieme spesso appoggiati, spesso appesi, spesso tenuti da instabili pinze e morsetti. La cella, come concetto e come entità fisica, diviene così l’emblema del transito, di quell’instabilità dell’abitare, di quella linea tra un non ancora e un già stato della tecnica, quel luogo di mezzo mai stabile tra razionalità e animalità. In questo modo il lavoro di Messina si pone come luogo di congiunzione tra una concezione dell’abitare come concetto ontologico generale e una sua determinazione storica attraverso la decadenza della nostra architettura industriale.
Come controparte tedesca troviamo il lavoro di
Andreas Lutz,
Wutbürger. “Wutbürger” è un neologismo coniato, sembra, dal giornalista tedesco Dirk Kurbjuweit nel 2010 e che sta a significare cittadini (Bürger) inferociti (Wut). Tale parola vuole identificare un malcontento crescente per la politica, per la crisi economica e l’impoverimento delle classi borghesi, rappresentando i cittadini medi che inferociti si riuniscono nelle strade. L’artista ha ripreso questa espressione per definire il decadimento di una certa classe borghese nata nel dopoguerra. Un decadimento che rappresenta il fallimento dell’uomo medio, in questo caso tedesco, e che viene rappresentato dall’artista attraverso una videoinstallazione di una performance di cinque ore, presentata all’interno di un box.
L’abitare incerto tocca anche classi sociali definite come emarginate che non rispettano i canoni visivi e lavorativi definiti dalle classi medie. Tale emarginazione non rappresenta un decadimento, come nell’opera di Andreas Lutz, ma definisce una instabilità di vita, condizione esistenziale normale e accettata da una grossa fetta della popolazione occidentale. Weiter (2004, “keep going”) di
Ulf Aminde si presenta come una danza, un gioco, di un gruppo di street punk che a suon di musica giocano al gioco delle sedie. In una ambientazione decadente, composta da prati con delle rovine di palazzi, i punk danzano intorno alle sedie ogni volta cadendo, sbattendosi l’un l’altro, rompendo quasi tutte le sedie ma mostrando una contentezza e un godimento continuo. L’instabilità è qui vista come una forma positiva di vita, come una condizione alla quale ambire.
Valentino Catricalà
