Diploma in Teaching German as a Foreign Language

Would you like to teach German and are looking for a well-founded, practice-oriented education? The "Diploma in Teaching German as a Foreign Language" offers you a professional qualification for teaching German at secondary schools – flexible in a distance learning format and with valuable practical units.

The course is run jointly by the Goethe-Institut and the Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU). The qualification programme is aimed at people with a B.A. degree and language skills at least at level B1 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages who would like to teach German as a foreign language at Indian secondary schools.
The content is offered as a distance learning course via IGNOU and can therefore be completed part-time. The duration of the course is usually one year.

As part of the Diploma, you will work on four modules. In modules 1-3, the focus is on didactics and methodology in an intercultural context, working with large groups, Landeskunde and the teaching of German grammar and vocabulary. In the fourth and final module, the emphasis is on teaching practice.

Despite the distance learning format, you have the opportunity to interact in person. The so-called "Präsenzphasen" are an essential component, as they offer the opportunity to speak German, form learning groups, exchange experiences with each other and with the tutors and finally form a network of future German teachers.
