The collaboration between the "A. Farm International Residency" and the Goethe-Institute in Ho-Chi-Minh-City encourages cultural dialogue and cooperation between German and Vietnamese artists. Through joint projects and programs, a platform for the exchange of ideas, artistic practices, and cultural perspectives is created.

The "A. Farm International Residency" was established in 2018 by the "Nguyen Art Foundation," "MoT+++," and "Sàn Art in Ho-Chi-Minh-City" with the aim of supporting Vietnamese art and creating space for intercultural exchange.

The "A. Farm International Residency" offers international artists the opportunity to work and live in Ho-Chi-Minh-City for up to six months. It enables artists to operate in a creative and intercultural environment and exchange ideas with local artists. A.Farm has five studio spaces and a workshop in a traditional 500-square-meter "Wooden House." Two of the rooms are reserved for sponsored artists, while the other three rooms are available to self-funded artists who pay a flexible rent of about 17,000,000 VND per month.

Before the start of this year's season, the Goethe-Institute Ho-Chi-Minh-City and A.Farm will release a call for applications for sponsored Vietnamese artists. The selection will be made by a panel of artists and cultural representatives. Sponsored artists have access to a studio and a private bedroom, as well as a monthly stipend of 4,000,000 VND and monthly production support of 4,000,000 VND. Vietnamese artists also receive round-trip airfare. It is recommended that sponsored Vietnamese artists stay for 6 months, with 5 months for research and the final month for presenting their work. All artists participating in the A.Farm project have the opportunity to participate in the "A.Farm Talking Partner Project." Each artist is assigned a local artist for creative exchange. Local contacts receive a monthly stipend of 1,000,000 VND for basic expenses. The Goethe-Institute Ho-Chi-Minh-City offers residencies for artists to promote cultural exchange, support artistic development, and enable international networking. Through these programs, the Goethe-Institute Ho-Chi-Minh-City aims to "create space for new perspectives."

Supported by the Leipzig Office for International Cooperation, a residency for an artist from Leipzig in Ho-Chi-Minh-City is sponsored in 2024, building upon the residencies facilitated in previous years through the Leipzig International Art Program (LIA). The close partnership between Leipzig and Ho-Chi-Minh-City, established since 2022, forms the foundation for this initiative. With a Vietnamese community of approximately 3500 members, Leipzig is home to the second-largest Vietnamese community in Germany. Since November 2018, the Deutsch-Vietnamesisches Haus has enriched the cultural life in Leipzig and serves as a symbol of the deep connection between the two cities. Furthermore, Leipzig has established its own office in the Deutsches Haus in Ho-Chi-Minh-City , further strengthening practical cooperation and exchange. The partnership between Leipzig and Ho Chi Minh City is not only symbolic but also of practical significance for cultural exchange and economic cooperation between Germany and Vietnam. The planned residency program between Leipzig and Ho-Chi-Minh-City will further promote this exchange and deepen the cultural relations between the two cities. It aims to connect the creative scenes of both cities and give them even greater visibility on the international stage.
