We are seeking an experienced leader with strong organizational skills and a passion for library and information services to join us as a Full-Time Head of Information and Library Services (LIB). In this key role, you will provide strategic and operational leadership for the library, ensuring an efficient and user-focused service while shaping the institute’s library and information programs.

As Head of Information and Library Services (I&B), your main responsibilities will include:

  • Lead the conceptualization, strategic planning, and continuous development of the Goethe-Institut Myanmar’s library and information services in close coordination with the Institute Director.
  • Initiate, plan, and implement projects with partners in the library and information sector, focusing on children and youth, women, literature, digital education, and sustainability.
  • Design and expand innovative digital and on-site services tailored to the library’s target audiences.
  • Oversee LP-CMS management and actively steer the library’s social media presence in collaboration with relevant departments.
  • Develop and execute annual program plans and social media campaigns in close coordination with the Digital Communications team.
  • Build, strengthen, and strategically expand networks with partners and key target groups.
  • Represent the library externally and actively promote its services and impact.
  • Manage collection development, including acquisition, cataloging, processing, and continuous updating of media resources.
  • Conduct professional information and media research and oversee lending services, including statistical reporting.
  • Manage media selection and procurement processes.
  • Ensure excellent, user-centered service quality across all library operations.
  • Plan and implement public relations activities to enhance the library’s visibility.
  • Establish and maintain quality management standards in library and information services.
  • Lead, motivate, and develop the library team, including conducting annual performance reviews and identifying professional development needs.
  • Plan, administer, and monitor the department’s budget, including pre-accounting procedures.
  • Prepare comprehensive reports on library services, programs, and projects.
  • Provide professional expertise and support to program and language departments.
  • Represent the institute at regional professional meetings and participate in relevant on-site and online training.
  • Perform other tasks as agreed.

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Completed university degree in Library and Information Science or a related field, or a minimum of 3–5 years of relevant professional experience.
  • Very good command of German (written and spoken) is an asset; a minimum of B1-level proficiency is required and must be verifiable to ensure effective communication with users, colleagues, and visitors, as well as the ability to operate internal Goethe-Institut systems.
  • Excellent command of English and Myanmar, both written and spoken.
  • Professional experience in a library or information center is an asset.
  • Strong organizational skills and a structured, detail-oriented working style.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Creativity and enthusiasm for promoting library services and resources.
  • Strong writing and editing skills tailored to different target audiences.
  • Ability to work independently with a high level of responsibility and initiative.
  • Collaborative team player with a proactive and solution-oriented mindset
  • Willingness to participate in weekend events.
  • Strong commitment to professional development, including participation in training programs locally and abroad.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications as well as digital tools and social media platforms.
